NUSFJORD: ARCTIC NORWAY

Just home from a weeks fishing at Nusfjord in The Lofoten Islands, Arctic Norway. March is prime time to catch the ‘skrei’, the famous run of very big cod that migrate to the area from The Barent Sea to spawn. During previous trips I have caught ‘skrei’ to over 50lb and have been aboard boats when 60lb and even 70lb fish have been landed; take a look at the Norway Cod article under Memorable Trips.

Well at these high latitudes March can also deliver some tricky weather, and unfortunately that was the case this year with strong winds that severely restricted where & when we could fish. On the plus side we had bright sunny days with clear nights and some wonderful displays of the northern lights, but it was brutally cold. Thankfully I had taken my Polar Buff along on the trip & this truly was a life saver when drifting offshore in bitterly cold Arctic winds. I was joined on this trip by my good friends Julien Lewis Jones and Rhys Llewelyn, who were filming a special Easter episode of their BAFTA nominated Welsh language fishing series ‘Sgota’. We fished both from the lodge charter boat and aluminium self-drives, both of which were excellent. Yes the fishing was tough but we caught some great fish, which you can watch when the program is shown on Easter Monday on S4C and on line, sub-title in English are available. Nusfjord is one of the nicest destinations I have visited in Norway, the perfect location for a group of friends looking to target big fish: you should go there! The full story will appear in Sea Angler Magazine soon. For more information on Nusfjord & other destinations throughout Norway contact Anglers World Holidays on Tel: 01246 221717

FINALLY!

Finally I have been dragged kicking & screaming into the digital era, and have agreed to set up & maintain my own website! To be absolutely honest I am actually looking forward to getting to grips with things, especially revisiting and updating articles from many of my previous trips, and illustrating them with some of the tens of thousands of images I have, most of which have never been published. This I will, or at least attempt to, post under the ‘Memorable Trips’ section of the site.

Aside from posting a regular blog, I will be able to keep the site fully up to date with details of planned hosted trips with Anglers World Holidays, who organise all of my trips. If you require any additional information you can contact them directly plus, of course, myself.

Anyway thats my first ever ‘blog’, written, now I’m going to try to not get too stressed as I attempt to post it on the site! Let me know what you think…
